Do I need to have a literary agent?

A literary agent is not required for submission or publishing.

 

Does KOBALT Publishing edit the voice or content of my work?

The simple answer is no.

We want your unedited ideas and concepts to work for you and the reader. At times, we will suggest changes based only in regards to readability.

 

Do I retain the rights to my work?

Our publishing agreement permits KOBALT Publishing the publishing rights for one (1) year. Once the initial contract expires, the author may use other publishing companies for their work, unhindered. The manuscript will always remain your work and the original work will always remain in your name and ownership.

 

Who determines the cover price for my book?

We will work with you to determine the appropriate price for you work. The final page count will determine the base price for your final work.

 

Who are your distribution partners?

Baker & Taylor, Ingram, Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and others.

 

Can I buy copies of my work?

Of course. If you choose to buy copies of your work, royalties will not be paid on these purchases. As a client you will be charged the printing cost, shipping, handling and 5% of the wholesale price.

 

Can I sell copies of my work outside of KOBALT Publishing?

We encourage authors to take aggressive steps when it comes to selling their works, whether you are selling books at a book signing, via your website or even through E bay.

There are no fees applied by KOBALT Publishing once  you have purchased your own copies. The client is responsible for all taxes for these purchases.
